Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS)

This is the process of capturing carbon from fossil fuel facilities as it is emitted and storing it. CCS refers to technical methodologies of sequestration, such as attaching CCS technology to fossil fuel smokestacks or flues. Sometimes the carbon captured is injected into underground geologic formations. Other times it is used to enhance fossil fuel production, allowing the carbon back into the atmosphere. It is a relatively new technology.
