Climate and Energy Manager
Clara Summers serves as the Climate & Energy Manager for NCEL. Her portfolio includes the power sector writ large (e.g. renewable energy and efficiency), transportation, land use, climate resilience, and a just transition. Clara began her environmental career as a 3rd grader, organizing classmates on the playground to sign a petition against oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge. Having spent part of her childhood and adulthood in Indonesia, Clara has witnessed firsthand the cumulative and ongoing impacts of climate change.
Clara has an MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution and a Graduate Certificate in Environment, Peace, and Conflict Resolution from American University’s School of International Service, and a BA in Anthropology and Czech language from the University of Washington. Prior to graduate school, Clara held roles at Interfaith Power & Light (DC.MD.NoVA), the Fulbright Program/American Indonesian Exchange Foundation, and Earthjustice. She co-chairs the Young Professionals Interest Group of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association. When not pursuing climate justice, you can find her Irish dancing.
