Climate and Energy Manager
Clara Summers serves as the Climate & Energy Manager for NCEL. Her portfolio includes the power sector, transportation, land use, buildings, industry, and a just transition. Clara began her environmental career as a 3rd grader, organizing classmates on the playground to sign a petition against oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge. Having spent part of her childhood and adulthood in Indonesia, Clara has witnessed firsthand the cumulative and ongoing impacts of climate change.
Clara has an MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution and a Graduate Certificate in Environment, Peace, and Conflict Resolution from American University, and a BA in Anthropology and Czech language from the University of Washington. Clara has done environmental peacebuilding field research in Israel and Palestine and published academically on Russian natural resource weaponization and climate change. She is the immediate past co-chair of the Young Professionals Interest Group of the Environmental Peacebuilding Association. Prior to graduate school, Clara held roles on the policy team at Earthjustice, as a Fulbright Fellow in Indonesia, and as the Maryland organizer for Interfaith Power & Light (DC.MD.NoVA). When not pursuing climate justice, you can find her Irish dancing.
